Cathy Hazouri

Cathryn Hazouri, board member and chair of development committee, is the former executive director of the ACLU of Colorado and testified before legislative committees for six years. She has worked in coalition with many organizations needed to move abolition forward.

Philip Cherner

Phil Cherner is a Denver lawyer practicing state and federal criminal defense and attorney grievance defense. He received his B.G.S. degree from the University of Michigan and his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1975. Phil is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver School of Law, where he has taught Professional Responsibility and Trial Practice. Phil has written and lectured extensively on his areas of practice. He previously served on the Colorado Supreme Court’s Criminal Rules Committee and presently serves on the Rules of Evidence Committee. He is a member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Mr. Cherner received of the CADP’s Abolitionist of the Year award in 2005 and the Johnathan Olom Award from the CCDB in 2006. He currently serves on the CCDB Board of Directors.

Hal Wright

Hal Wright is a registered pro bono lobbyist with the Colorado General Assembly. He serves on the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council by gubernatorial appointment and chairs its Legislative and Public Policy Committee. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Colorado Social Legislation Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Fund for People with Disabilities. He served on the governing committees of the largest religious lobbying organization in Washington DC, the Friends Committee on National Legislation, from 1999-2010 and served as its president in 2008-2009. He is a retired Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
